So you can get started right away if you get it. MZ is coming out on 20th and it's the latest engine that has some newer features compared to MV.
But you might have to wait for some time for plugins to come out for MZ since it's new. I like MV because it close to MZ. Hah, I am using it the longest of all engines.
I think it is an attachment of us to pick one engine over others and we are perfect our skills in a particular maker. The difference is not the RPG maker itself, but your abilities. The events such as switches and variables are really similar in all of the RPG makers. Last edited: Jul 31, Black Pagan Veteran. Just pretend like you never saw VX.
Bex Veteran. MV but soon it will be most likely MZ. Andar Veteran. There are different makers available because they were developed over decades.
The older makers were kept available because game development needs years and you can't simply switch to the next maker with a project started on another maker. If you want to go for most functionality, then you'll want to wait for MZ, the newest maker to be released in three weeks. This is especially because it now includes the best mapping options ever available, even more than RMXP. However it will take some time until it will have plugins for it developed - but contrary to many users beliefs it is possible to make a game completely without plugins.
All I've heard about MZ is "how much greater the mapping will be". What else is it bringing to the table? Some people aren't made of money like me. So always give good alternatives. I find VXA easier to work with.

RPG Maker VX Ace, meanwhile, fixed all the complaints people had about VX while adding a number of new features, including custom formulas for battle actions and items.
This is one of the most well-supported RPG Maker titles from over the years, too, so you can likely find a script to do pretty much anything you can think of, ranging from simple changes to the messaging system to full-on changes of visual perspective.
This is a big deal for those who want to distribute their work more widely — or who just want the satisfaction of seeing their game running on something other than the device they created it on. And once again, if you prefer the chunky pixel art look of and , be prepared to add this back in manually through DLC or community contributions. Aside from this, however, this is one of the very best installments in the RPG Maker series — and it frequently goes on sale, meaning you can often pick it up for a very nice price indeed.
As the community gets to grips with its new features, doubtless it, too, will enjoy the strong support past entries in the series have had. RPG Maker MV also adds some nice quality of life features such as greater control over facial features in the character editor, the ability to see movement paths while creating events, a revamped spell effect animation system that allows you to use free software Effekseer to create your own particle effects, an autosave system for games and an in-game interface that is friendly to mouse and touch controls.
Pretty much everything I just described; the new features are very nice indeed…. If you think that sounds like you, give the earlier installments in the series a go — RPG Maker works most reliably on modern systems with its lovely borderless windowed runtime.
